ZevulunMay 6, I'm wanting to put an exhaust system on my however KTM is telling my dealer that all the 's after have locked ECU's and there is no way around them to tune the bike. Also all of the aftermarket companies have stopped manufacturing systems for the postreason according to KTM is that because there is no race class for the the Feds placed restrictions on the bike, calling it a green bike in all states.

The dealer will gladly take the pipe back without issue, but we are trying to find a way to make it work if possible. Even Powercommander and the other companies that make tuners stop listing the after KTM outright said today there is no tune possible for the bike, and if we put the new pipe on the bike it won't run well and it will run hot.

Although it's true that TuneECU does not work any longer on the new bikes, but dealers can still put map on it via their own system Not sure what system that is, haven't done it, but know of others that have.

I believe they use the EVO2 map, but you'll have to read up on that. On myI'm running a Wings exhaust, with the stock map and it works just fine.

Wiring Looms and Kits. Have an idea? Or need custom work done? There is no doubt that the KTM EXC-F is one of the most powerful and best performing dual sport bikes on the market right now. The crazy thing is, there is even more power to be had if you own one in the United States. The noise and emission restrictions set forth by the federal government are so strict, the bike is actually restricted.

The first thing I, and most people do, is add a pipe for better sound and more power. I went with an FMF 4. Upon installing an aftermarket pipe, more fuel is required when you let the bike breathe better. I had the Euro map installed at a KTM dealer afterwards and the bike felt great with the exception of some occasional popping from the exhaust on decel. At this point I thought I was done. What more could I possibly expect from this bike? It rips! Well, for one I wanted it to live.

And two, I hoped the Euro map was enough fuel for the FMF but I really had no idea if it was actually dialed in properly. I also read a ton a people were desmogging theirs and pulling the reed cage from the air intake boot.

At first I was against this until I saw just how restricted it was.

The only problem with pulling the reed cage would mean the bike would require even more fuel to run properly. That is dangerous for a motor at rpms. He reassured me that would not be the case. I shipped Chris my ECU and he had it remapped and back to me in no time at all. After the newly mapped ECU was installed, it was time to demog. It is a very simple kit and easy to install.

Then remove the fuel vapor and vacuum lines and block off the canister valve vacuum hose fitting in the intake. I capped the airbox port and ran a new line from the valve cover to outside the airbox. The kit comes with all the vacuum caps, hoses and plugs needed to do all of this. There is also a 6 page instruction sheet so there is no guesswork. Note: According to Blais Racing, the canister valve can be unplugged and completely removed without throwing an engine light if you already have the Euro map since the Euro model does not have the valve.

Therefore, I will be removing the valve all together! KTM started putting a reed cage in the air boot in the models. It is designed to reduce noise. They look just like the reeds out of 2 stroke. To pull them out, I just had to pry the rubber boot away from the airbox.Forums New posts Advanced search Image search.

Name Curt. Locked or not, I'd think it should still work. Locking the ECU prevents you from adjusting the fuel mapping. So why isn't Power Commander making them for models after ? Would one for a possibly work in a ?

I guess calling Power Commander would be a good starting point. Interface Box is exactly as MNB stated. Tuner Box will alter the ECU fuel map. Just throwing this out there, what if the bike was rewired with a ECU, is that an option?

You should be able to get it running fine by ditching the smog crap and putting a decent exhaust on.A friend last year waited several hours, another friend last Saturday waited 3 hours, and I'm currently at a dealership waiting to pick mine up and they are hour into trying to get it to accept the program and update.

All three of these instances are at separate dealerships. Are these isolated incidents or is it just part of the purchase with these bikes to have this issue before you can walk out the door with it?

I've bought a and a in the last 11 months from 2 different dealers. Both occasions the bikes were purchased and loaded quicker than a drive thru big Mac meal. Got one from Cernic's in September was waiting for 3 hours because the service manager was off and nobody knew how to unlock the computer. I bought the bike a week before over the phone so I'm not sure why it wasn't done. Sam Bird Ryan Francis racing Francisracing There are 2 unlock codes, one is the initial Temporary Unlock code that will let the bike run for like 60 mins pre-sale.

RCF wrote:. This is news to me. Just bought a 18 Husky. Does this pertain to all models across the board? I do not remember the dealer hooking up anything electrical during the delivery dealer go over.

I went to one of their dealer meetings and they know that the system can be challenging at times. It just happens to be the dealer having issues. Mine was done in 20 minutes on my ktm sxf. Is where I bought mine. Also, depends on if the dealer frequently is on top of their software updates on the XC-1 computer. If the dealer sells a bike and needs to update the XC-1 computer that in itself could take a few hours to download and update before they can generate a code.

Is this actually possible? I've had a couple dealers say that couldn't ship bikes and couldn't sell in a crate. I know for a fact you can buy in the crate, buy almost all my bikes that way, not sure about shipping, don't know why not.

Something new KTM is doing is that the dealer must assemble the bike, warranty register it, get a code to unlock the ecu before it will run.

This is on all Efi KTMs, not the 2-strokes. This is on bikes. Shipping is the problem. Can't be that difficult to figure out tho. FedEx Freight does it, can't be cheap tho I got my first crated bike last year. Atvs and more in salem, illinois is a ktm dealer. His son his a very fast amateur that trains in GA.

He has great prices and if shipping is not possible, I have seen him bring bikes to people before. Maybe you could meet in GA. Talk to charlie or joe. You are correct and other OEM's are going to start doing this going forward. Arctic Cat also does this. Your going to get several guys telling you they got bikes in crates, but the only way that can be done now is if they take it out of the crate, assemble it, warranty register it, pay it off and use the KTM computer to unlock the bike.

Then they can take it back apart and put it in a crate and send it to anywhere in the US. If one of the dealers were stupid enough to ship it in the crate without a full PDI, the bike will run for awhile and then limp mode. Hope this never happens as it could be dangerous. Never try to argue with idiots; they will only bring you down to their level RMT wrote:. I had never heard of having to get a code to "unlock" a new bike.

I didnt even think of a possible safety issue like you described. That would suck if your going up a face and it goes into "limp" mode. I cant help to think that if a mechanic makes a mistake in the process someone could really get hurt. There are several situations where a human can make a mistake that could yield dire consequences. I would think that would be a huge liability issue. Actually, kind of surprises me that they would do that.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance! I'm confused on why the bike has to be taken out of the crate to "warranty register it" as well as have the computer hooked up to the ecu JB Try Uship to cut down on your shipping costs.

I have never had a problem and shipped 3 bikes in the last couple of years. Plus it doesn't need to be in a crate to ship.
